Title: ?!?!?! (don't have one yet, lulz)
Characters: Rouge and Vector
Rating: PG
Summary: Thief and detective are locked in a contest to see who can get the prize within the ruins first.
Notes: I did a lot of this early morning, so commentary/pointing out wonky spots would be appreciated as well as feedback. 8D May or may not add more to this, we'll see.

“Get out of my way!”

“Not a chance, broad!”

She had her eye on the prize. Unfortunately, she wasn’t the only one because it turned out that the Chaotix Detective Agency had been given payment to track down the very same artifact she had gone through the ruins for. Right now, she was neck-in-neck with the leader of the Agency, as they raced down the corridor towards the room at the end.

It was annoying to have found company in the crumbling temple. Not even a week had gone by since the place’s discovery and already she was having to fight off the riff-raft to get at her prize.

“This is way out of your league!” A shove, followed by a kick hit the crocodile, though given his bulk it hadn’t made him budge much, despite the iron in her boots. Before he could retaliate with a push of his own, the bat used her natural advantage against him and flew overhead. She’d love to see the buffoon try to get her now.

A glance downwards showed she was gloating too soon. Vector was scaling the wall towards her, faster than she thought it possible for someone his size to move. Her shock gave him enough time to jump off and latch onto her legs. His weight dragged her down and in moments they were in a heap on the floor, back to struggling for the lead.

Using his bulk against her, Vector had the thief pinned to the ground, earning him a snarl. “Heh, you should know better than to mess with the Chaotix!”

The woman beneath him rolled her eyes and suddenly stopped struggling. Moving closer, she batted her eyelashes as she pursed her lips, throwing her charm into every movement she made. “It’s a shame really… That such a dashing man like you made an amateur mistake~” Before he had time to think about her statement, a foot flew up to his groin. As he rolled off of her, scowling in pain, Rouge smirked and dusted herself off. That was too easy.

It had never been a habit of the thief to waste more time than necessary on a mission. A few seconds to boast, and she was off again. The goal wasn’t far off now, only a few feet and…! The loud singing she heard from behind was like a roar, one powerful enough to cause a cave-in, right in front of her.

“You idiot!” Rouge turned to face him, outrage easily visible on her face. What was he trying to pull, doing a dangerous stunt like that?! The dumbest thing one could do in ruins was tempt fate by causing a large disturbance. “You could’ve gotten us both killed!”

He shrugged, enjoying the look of anger far too much. It wasn’t every day he got to piss off the stuck-up bat. Vector would take his time to move the rocks aside. The job needed to be done, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t bask in the moment a little longer. “I can get in there just fine myself.”

“So can I.” Whether he had chosen to ignore the fact or not, Rouge hadn’t lost the digging tools on her boots in the last few moments and planned to tag full advantage of them. While he was going at a snail’s pace, the bat attacked the wall with her signature screw kick, slowly making her way through the pile. There was no way she was going to wait for him to finish before continuing with her plans.

Which suited him just fine as ultimately her stubbornness meant less work for him. The two worked side-by-side, not sharing a single word with the other. Both were focused on getting through and once that happened, they would again be locked in competition to reach the famed, jeweled crown that supposedly lay within. It had only been natural for Rouge to be on the scene with gems involved, but Vector was another story. Someone had commissioned him to retrieve it and offered a pretty penny for it, too. In true Chaotix fashion, he had accepted the job without further question and was more than willing to take down a low-life thief if she kept getting in the way.

The path was clear now and with only a glance shared between them, the final race had begun.
